Rendering in UE4

Here are some tests we ran between UE4 and VRay

Real-time rendering allows for unprecedented render time, shoot speed and flexibility. Using UE4 Light bakes, proper HDRIs, photogrammetry, and professionally crafted assets, our amazing talent achieves a quality parallel to films.

Vray vs UE4

While UE4 has its advantages, there are things to stay away from. Reflections, heavy simulations, and fur to name a few. When it comes to Global Illumination doe, we’ve worked hard to find how to make Unreal Engine lighting behave like VRays. Our tests show its toe to toe. Light mass and volumetric light samples allow for movable objects to also have high quality lighting. We’ll show that in our next breakdown.

Gold room props is this awesome warehouse full of military/modern props up in Valencia California.

The owner was nice enough to let us take some photogrammetry of props outside. We took some individually as well as arranged them so we can have something to match. A place to start off at.

CLEAN ASSETS and ALBEDOS

Meshes go through a  rigorous cleanup process . Some areas even get remodeled depending on the level of fidelity we’re looking for.

Delighting the environment gives us a  Cleanplate Albedo . This served as the start point for the entire set.

After models are cleaned up properly,  textures are re-projected back onto meshes.  We then  DELIGHT  them using a mixture of Lightroom and Substance Painter.
